10 Miles & Weekend At Home

Since I moved home at Christmas, I’ve gone on four separate trips. FOUR in under two months! Between interviews, visiting my boyfriend, and a family vacation, I feel like I’m never at home. And I survive on Southwest points.

So, this weekend it felt so strange to be home with no big plans. I ended up doing a little of Mardi Gras, but other than that I was just on my own.

Friday I got lunch with a friend and then did some research training all night (like 7 hours until 10:30pm all night..ugh!), Saturday night I did a little studying for the class I’m taking and watched Notre Dame play ten thousand hours of basketball, and Sunday I got in a long run before doing a little window shopping.

My long run! 10 miles!!

Treadmill 10 Miles

Saturday was a much needed rest day – Best Body Bootcamp kicked my butt last week! And that rest was perfect the day before a good long run. I’m training for an unspecified half marathon (there are a bunch this spring but I haven’t committed to any) so I’m trying to gradually increase my mileage. Last weekend I ran 8, and this weekend was a nice and easy ten. None of that speed or hill work I’ve been doing – just a steady 7.0mph pace while watching lots of House Hunters.

It was storming when I woke up ( I LOVE storms!) so I was lazy in bed for a few hours, but by the time I was heading to the gym it had stopped raining. I was kind of kicking myself for not running outside in the park since it wasn’t too super cold, but I’m a treadmill lover (up to 17 miles!) so it was fine. Hopefully I can start doing more outdoor runs soon!

And after a shower and food, I threw on my Pro Compression socks and went to the mall for some window shopping. I have no business buying too much right now, but I still like to see what’s out there.

It’s Sunday night right now and I just finished some Whole Foods sushi (I’m on a major sushi kick right now), and Kombucha, and am settling in for some Grammys and a little more studying. I’ll probably grab a little sweet treat before bed too.

I’m traveling the next two weekends (this weekend to see P, then to DC with my parents) so the quiet time at home won’t last long. Gotta appreciate it while it lasts!

  • Do you prefer weekends with no plans or to always have something to do?
  • Are you traveling at all this spring?

  1. You had me at long run and compression socks! That sounds like my favorite kind of weekend at home.
There is nothing I love more than traveling, but balancing it with weeknds like that make them all the better!
    Have a great week!

  2. Yes! Traveling at least once a month throughout the spring (which is actually pretty typical for my life). It makes the week of work after trips pretty crazy, but I love getting to hop all over the world:)

  3. Wow I don’t know how you run so far on the treadmill. I hate that machine!!! But nice run and I always wear compression socks after :)
I live on airline miles too but I don’t get to travel nearly that much. I do enjoy it though! When I do find myself with free time, I never know what to do!

  4. While I do love having things to look forward to, sometimes it’s nice to have a weekend without any big plans. That’s usually when the most fun things happen!

  5. It’s nice to sometimes just have no plans and relax. Way to go on your long run!! I’m a treadmill runner too and I think right about 17 was my longest on the treadmill also! Have a great week, Clare!

  6. nice work on your 10 miler!! i’m traveling to arizona over spring break and utah in may for blend retreat!

  7. I give you soo much credit for running 10 miles on the treadmill, I don;t think I could do it, for whatever reason running longer then 6 miles on the treadmill seems like a daunting task!

  8. Sometimes, it’s so so nice to just stay put for a weekend! You’ve been one busy lady but glad to see you’re enjoying yourself!

  9. I love a weekend with plans, just because I am a planner, but recently I have been go-go-go all through the week and weekend and I really would LOVE a free weekend to just chill!

  10. ahh whole foods sushi and kombucha, two of my WF favs.
and props to you for miles on the treadmill! if I’m not doing intervals or something I can barely stay on for 2 miles…enjoy the restfulness at home before craziness sets in!

and when will you share the secrets on school?? cant wait to hear!

  11. I love those occasional quiet weekends… a little retreat from normal, busy life. Way to go on your ten miler! I used to do more treadmill running, but haven’t needed to here with such mild weather. I’m doing the same thing- training for an unspecified half marathon. :)

  12. I did 11.5 miles. That’s 1.5 miles more than you! It was a tough run but I’m glad I did it. I’m training for a marathon. My 5th. Running is my favorite thing to do EVER, except of course make out with my lover. =)

I like weekends with no plans as well. Its like I get caught up with stuff I’ve neglected the whole week. And it gives me an excuse to give myself a pedicure or bake a chocolate cake. I would bake an apple pie but I hate peeling all the apples.

  13. I think you need a good combo of busy weekends and lazy ones for an enjoyable life. Also, throwing in a vacation or two doesn’t hurt. I have some beach weekends planned in the next month, which is much needed.
