Last weekend I spent a whirlwind 30 hours in Florida celebrating my good friends Nicole and Valerio's wedding. Valerio is in my medical school class, and Nicole moved here from Florida to be with him so we've gotten to know her really well. They are both the sweetest, happiest people! And Valerio is from Italy, so we always get delicious food and wine:) The wedding was at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort, which was phenomenal. Great gym, stunning pool area, free beach . . .
I was SO impressed with Minneapolis! Somehow, despite going to camp nearby for 5 years as a kid, my aunt and uncle living there, and my little brother living there since college, I haven't spent much time in the city. I was there for a wedding a few years ago (Hi Molly!) but other than that, it had been a long time since I visited. I was happy to get to come up for my little brother and his fiance's last wedding shower! White skinnies | Sweater (old) - similar Saturday Saturday was . . .
I'm heading back from a very successful bachelorette weekend in Palm Springs! Top of our hike Friday morning I'm so grateful that I was able to make it out to celebrate my little brother's fiance. I'm also so honored I was included! It was great to not only get away for a little while, but also get to know her friends and sister better. They are so funny! I attempted to like bloody marys, but really I'm a mimosa girl. It was my first time in Palm Springs, and aside from the lengthy . . .
I just made a quick trip to Indianapolis and Louisville! My uncle had surgery in Indianapolis this past Monday (he is doing well), so my mom and aunt planned to drive over to spend some time with him. I decided to join them, with the added bonus of seeing my best friend, Laura! Once the Indianapolis portion was planned, I decided I should swing by Louisville on the way home too and see Brittany. Tuesday Tuesday afternoon I went straight to the hospital to see my uncle, then over to The Hot . . .
What an incredibly wonderful week in Hilton Head with my family. We came down here for Thanksgiving last year, and apparently it's becoming a tradition. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak away for a few days in the coming years, even though I won't have the whole week off. It's so rare that my whole family is together (my little brother and his fiancé live in Minneapolis), so we really value the dinners, movies, games, and laughs together! New games we played: Dixit & One Night . . .
This past weekend's conference in Seattle was incredible. It was fun, inspiring, engaging, and really impressive. It was my first national conference as my class's rep for the American Association of Medical Colleges, and now I can't wait to go each year. Over 200 representatives from colleges all over the country met to discuss the leading issues in medical education and share ideas about each school's best practices. We had daily meetings as regions (SLU is part of the central region) . . .
My family has been going to Hilton Head since I was very little and it is a place I've come to love very much. The island has changed a lot in that time -- it's much more built up now -- but it still has the same low country, laid back beach vibe. It is a great place to visit as a solo (like I just did!), as couple, with friends (like I did for spring break!), or definitely with your family. Hilton Head is divided into "plantations" which are basically like huge neighborhoods. When I was . . .
YOU GUYS. Yesterday just turned into the longest day ever!! My 12 hour car trip turned into nearly 16 hours due to accident traffic outside Nashville and then a flat tire somewhere at the border of Tennessee and Kentucky!! I was so so lucky that I was already getting off to get gas when it happened, and also that a really nice man at the gas station offered to help me fix it. It would have taken me way longer to do it on my own! It's not ideal to drive that far on a spare, but I didn't . . .
Life is good here in Hilton Head! I'm getting into the swing of solo life and loving every second. I've been sleeping for almost exactly 9.5 hours every night, which is simultaneously amazing and terrifying. My body can't continue wanting that much sleep...medical school doesn't allow it! Mornings have started with coffee and journaling on the balcony. Then I've either done some yoga, gone for a bike ride, or one day I went to the gym for some elliptical and weights. That may happen . . .
I've travelled alone before, but I always met people to spend time with. This trip to Hilton Head is my first vacation where I will be all by myself with no plans. I AM SO EXCITED. I originally was going to have some company, but when that fell through I debated whether or not to still make the trip. It's a really long drive plus...would it be any fun? I decided that spending some relaxing time alone might be just with I need to round out this summer. I could read, lay in the pool, do yoga, . . .
