So my knee has been acting up a little again. It's not remotely as bad as it was over the summer, but there have been a few twinges. There is also tons of crepitus (crackling) which scares me because I'm only 29. Anyway, I decided maybe all the plyometric circuits and jumping back into leg weights was too much too soon. Spinning is a great (fairly) knee-friendly way to get in a good leg workout, so I decided to get back into that by creating a new workout. It was time for some new music . . .
I just got back from the gym, so let's talk about workouts! Back when I started this blog I was training for half and full marathons, and shared my workout every day. Now I'm much more of a yogi / gym type than a distance runner. To be honest, I don't think my knees could handle the distance running anymore. How sad. //A list of all the workouts I've shared on the blog over the years!// I've really just been doing whatever workouts sound good to me for the past year or two. I obviously . . .
Hey everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was pretty great, especially since we don't have a test this week so there wasn't anything too immediate to study for. Those types of weekends are so nice, but that will all change soon because I'm going to have to start doing boards review that will take up lots of my fun free time. But it'll be worth it! I actually ended up seeing three movies this past weekend! Well, the first was actually on Thursday night when I got to watch The . . .
I was in desperate need to change up the playlist for my spin workouts! Lately I've been using the spin bike for some quick sweaty cardio before lifting, so I didn't want this workout to be too long. This is just twenty minutes (including the cool down) but it can be intense if you work hard. That's the beauty of spin workout -- you control your effort and resistance so they can be as easy or as difficult as you want! Here's the spotify link: 20 Min Spin Workout Previous Spin Workouts: . . .
I've been lifting with my friend AJ this summer. A few times a week we meet up and I basically just do what he tells me. I tend to lift heavier when I'm with him which is great! It's also nice to have company and some time to catch up. Slu Gym Via The other day we met up for legs for the first time in a few weeks. We always start with squats and take turns on the same bar. I get a work out on my own just lifting his massive 45 lb plates onto the bar!! When it was my turn I asked, "What . . .
You may remember a couple of months ago Pure Barre hosted a private class for SLU Med. Everyone had a blast (especially the guys!!) and they offered us a great deal on their new member special. I had done one-off barre classes with friends, but never consistently. To be honest, I wasn't really a fan of the whole "lights weights, girly workout" type thing -- I was far more a part of the heavy weights and functional movement camp. But I decided this was my opportunity to see what it could . . .
I am exhausted!! Anyone else? All of us? Some of my meetings ran long this past weekend, which cut into my study time, which means I didn't get as much done as I needed to and now I'm playing catch up all week. I'm actually not going to class this week, which isn't normally my style. Instead I'm choosing to go through the recordings of the lectures really slowly so I have time to look things up and make sure I get it fully before moving on. Neurology is intense!! Lots of looking at slices . . .
Under the crushing amount of debt that we are, my classmates and I are always looking for discounts and freebies. This is where social media comes in -- FOLLOW LOCAL BUSINESSES! This is how you find out about cool events and specials!! I saw an post on Facebook for a FREE WEEK of classes at a local fitness studio, Dragonfly Fitness. I immediately shared it with my girlfriends, and next thing I know we've all got workout classes planned together! LOVE the studio motto:) I had no idea . . .
Hi friends! It seems all the craziness of school decided to manifest in a nasty cold once I let myself slow down. Figures! I had a pretty stressful and sleepless last couple of weeks, and now my body is letting me know it's had enough. I've been doing a lot of nothing -- actually still have some last minute gifts to pick up today (eek!) and then lots of family time. We're actually having our fancy Christmas Even dinner tonight since my little brother is leaving tomorrow to spend Christmas . . .
I used to do Crossfit. Remember that? Seems like another life. Back in my Dallas days I loved my Crossfit box, Tiger's Den. I was not much of a fan of the Olympic lifting, but I do credit Crossfit with teaching me how to lift heavier weights with proper form. What I lived for were the met-cons. The short definition of metabolic training is completing structural and compound exercises with little rest in between exercises in an effort to maximize calorie burn and increase metabolic rate . . .
