Christmas was new and different, but so wonderful this year. We spent the holiday in Hilton Head for the first time, which meant new traditions and warmer weather. Since we’re all older and don’t have any little kids yet, Christmas is much more about fun family time together and way less about waking up early for presents. It’s less exciting, but way more relaxing. t I’m sure we’ll love it when we get to experience Christmas through kids’ eyes a few years down the road!
Christmas Eve was spent decorating our tree and watching movies. I’m so glad we actually got a real tree down here! We had to wait until my older brother got down here on Christmas day to put the star on top – it’s tradition!
We had honey baked ham for dinner before heading to the 10pm Christmas Eve Mass. That’s the only time I put real clothes on so far. It’s all leggings and PJs otherwise!
Christmas morning we all slept in and then had this bacon, leek and gruyere strata or breakfast. It’s a recipe from my sister-in-law and it is SO good. I’ll be using it in the future!
Afterward we indulged my mom in her one wish for the day — to go to the beach on Christmas! It was actually packed with people and dogs, and way less windy than we expected, so it made for a gorgeous walk.
By the time we got back, my older brother and his girlfriend were only a few hours away (driving from St. Louis) so we played one round of Ticket To Ride before getting things ready for dinner. They arrived around 6:15pm and we got the Christmas party started!! They had all of the gifts in the trunk of the car, so we unloaded them all before taking our annual “We all help Kevin put the tree topper on” photo, which is really just a goofy joke.
We had a champagne toast before a delicious dinner of beef tenderloin, shrimp, crab legs, mashed potatoes, and roasted veggies. It was so nice to have everyone with us – minus my boyfriend who is coming in a few days.
We opened gifts after dinner, where everyone was thoroughly spoiled. I got so many goodies, but these classic loafers my be my favorite. I can’t wait to wear them for years to come!
Ice cream sundaes were on the menu for dessert, along with lots of Milo cuddles and figuring out our new gifts. Isn’t he the cutest? He blends in with the blanket!!
It was such a perfect, relaxed few days. It’s so rare that we have so much uninterrupted time together and I’m so grateful everyone was able to make it down to Hilton Head to celebrate this year.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas as well!
