When we first graduated back in 2010, we ended up seeing each other fairly regularly at football games. Then people got busier, we got older, and and suddenly it felt like forever since I’d spent time with my best friends!
We had our five year reunion, but also decided to start doing weekend trips at least every two years. Our first one was in Napa (here are the blog posts: Day one, Day two) and this year we took advantage of my parents’ new place in Hilton Head. 7 of the 9 of us were able to come – one is getting married in two weeks and one is very pregnant.
We had lots of plans on the Napa trip, but this time it was complete lazy relaxation. We had so much fun just telling stories and laughing at our idiot college selves that it really didn’t matter where we were! But considering most of the country had a cold spell the past few days, having 75 degree weather was pretty nice!
I arrived late Thursday afternoon after some nasty flight issues, and two of my girlfriends picked me up from the airport. They had gotten in earlier and spent the day exploring Savannah. They had cupcakes waiting in the car!!
We got the house all ready for the rest of the girls to arrive, went grocery shopping, and ordered pizza for dinner. 3 more girls arrived a little after midnight and we stayed up until 3 am just talking over wine. I hadn’t stayed up that late in forever!
Friday we slept in, a few girls went to a Bikram class, and the rest of us literally sat by the pool ALL DAY. Like 7 straight hours just talking and enjoying the weather. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a while. So needed! When the sun went down we headed in to start on dinner and ended up with a delicious meal — salmon, chicken, potatoes, and asparagus. And of course cupcakes:)
That night we did our best to stay up for the last arrival, but most of us fell asleep before midnight! When my last girlfriend got in three of us did end up waking up and chatting until 2am again. Can’t help it!
Saturday we lounged on the couch looking at old facebook albums (EEK!) and I went to the gym for a quick workout. People sat by the pool and a few went on a bike ride, but I ended up taking a nap. I was so tired from the late nights!
At 3:30pm it was GAME TIME! We had beers, cheese and crackers, and the biggest bowl of guac I’ve ever seen as snacks while we watched our Irish win. SUCH a fun season!! GO IRISH!
After the game we got a little dolled up to head to dinner at a local restaurant called Poseidon. There is a nightclub above it that I assumed would be pretty dead since it’s the offseason, but they were having a Halloween party and it was actually a little crowded. We stayed and danced for a few hours, which was SO FUN. It was like our glory days of college, except way way nicer than any of our college bars. I also had more to drink than I have in a while. My 30 year old body didn’t appreciate that.
My top (on clearance now) || my fav black jeans || similar heels cheap from Target – similar – similar || Sugarfix drop earrings || Kendra Scott bracelet (bday gift from my boyfriend!) || Wearing “First Date” lipstick
I was pretty bummed we hadn’t planned costumes, though!
Most of the girls had early flights on Sunday, and i was very grateful to be able to sleep in a bit after our wild night! It’s just Laura and I at the house now and we haven’t moved from the couch. The weather is a little cooler today and really windy, so no pool time. We’re thinking of manicures and a walk on the beach later on. I’m also washing all the sheets and towels and cleaning up the house. We both leave tomorrow.
My body is still recovering, but my heart is so full. These girls are the funniest, smartest, most successful and most fun in the whole world. I’m so lucky to have them in my life and even luckier that we were able to spend this weekend together. We have that wedding coming up in just a few weeks so most of us will get a round two!! And there have been votes to make the next girls weekend international. Twist my arm;)
