I hope many of you are enjoying this Monday off, like I am. I was able to have a non-school focused weekend since I have to day to get work done and my life organized.
I’m sharing another day-in-the-life post today; my first of second year. There are a few from last year on the Medicine page. Before I started medical school I had no clue what my days would look like, so hopefully this is helpful to people in that same boat. Each day is different, which is great but kind of hard for a schedule/planner person like me. This is from last Wednesday, which was our last day of classes in the cardiology module.
8:00am: Alarm goes off. I had it set for 7am originally and planned to do some yoga this morning, but I couldn’t sleep last night and ended up just getting up and studying until almost 3am. So the alarm was reset!
8:05: Straight to the coffee maker to start brewing.
8:05-8:30: Get dressed while watching the Today Show. Find my lint roller to get the dog hair off my leggings and tell little Winston how much I love him:)
8:30-8:45: Pack my lunch (turkey, pepperjack, lettuce and pesto on gfree bread), make a Vega smoothie, pack my school bag. I have a lot to carry today!
8:48: Out the door – running a little late!! I drink my smoothie in the car.
9:00am: Park in the garage. Luckily our lecturer is running a little late too so I don’t miss any of class.
(still loving these sharpie pens for note taking)
9-10:30: Cardiology case studies. They are complicated. I have a lot to study!! I also eat a muffin during class.
10:35- 11:15: Review our previous test with the course director and ask questions. This didn’t take as long as planned so we got out early today.
11:20: Walk with a friend to the students affairs office to refill our coffee mugs with free coffee:)
11:25-12:50: Head to the library to study. I watched some SketchyPharm videos on anti-arrhythmic drugs and take notes. I also eat my sandwich for lunch while I’m there.
1-2pm: Heart sounds lab. We pair up and practice listening for heart sounds on standardized patients. It went well!
2:20: Home! Greeted by crazy dogs. I go outside to take an outfit picture then promptly change into comfies. Gus helped with the photos! I grab a bite of chocolate and head upstairs where I finish watching the end of a Sketchy video before I have to leave for physical therapy.
3-4: Physical Therapy. I wrote about my knee issue last week if you want to check that out. We work on gluteus medium strengthening as usual, but also add in some foam rolling and vastus medalis strengtheners too.
4:20pm: Get home. Grab some almonds and another piece of chocolate for a snack. Up to my desk to study!
7:30pm: Make dinner. I made brown rice pasta, zucchini noodles, chicken sausage with tomato sauce and cheese. YUM. I read a bit of a magazine downstairs while I eat as a little break.
8:00pm: Back to my desk! I’m studying heart failure and cardiomyopathies tonight. My desk is a total mess. I also text with a few friends in between studying.
10:30: grab a glass of wine + a few more chocolate squares while I finish studying. Hoping it will help me sleep tonight! I don’t want a repeat of last night.
11:30pm: My roommate comes home and we chat and laugh for a little bit before I get in bed.
11:50pm: In bed. I watching a few sketchy videos while I fall asleep. I’m hoping I actually sleep tonight and am rested for my study day tomorrow.
- Are you a planner? Or would you enjoy having every day be different?
