Under the crushing amount of debt that we are, my classmates and I are always looking for discounts and freebies. This is where social media comes in — FOLLOW LOCAL BUSINESSES! This is how you find out about cool events and specials!!
I saw an post on Facebook for a FREE WEEK of classes at a local fitness studio, Dragonfly Fitness. I immediately shared it with my girlfriends, and next thing I know we’ve all got workout classes planned together!
LOVE the studio motto:)
I had no idea what to expect, but Dragonfly more than impressed me. I showed up to a studio full of erg rowers, huge tires, TRX, squat racks, and kettle bells. That’s my kind of fitness studio!! It’s mean to be a place for women to workout together, and I love the focus on strength. I’d say it’s in between Crossfit and bootcamp.
First I tried out a “Lift” class with a friend. We started with a group dynamic warm up of walk out push ups, windmills, squats and mountain climbers. Our technique practice was kettlebell windmills which smoked my obliques. Then the workout was two circuits, three rounds each of close width pushups, weighted curse lunges, TRX hamstring curls and inverted rows. We ended with a quick metabolic finisher and 50 minutes later I was out the door!
I loved it the class style, but was also left wanting more. The instructor spent a lot of time on form, which I appreciate, but I could have used another round or circuits or something. The exercises were great, I just felt like for an hour class we didn’t do that much.
The next day we switched it up and a ton of us met for Cardio Hip Hop. This class was a TOTAL blast and we were shaking and sweating like idiots. It was the perfect start to a long day of studying and such a fun way to get some cardio! I would totally do this all the time, but the normal rates were a little pricey for me.
There are lots of other classes on the schedule, and I really wish I could have tried their CardioStrong class which they said is more like metabolic conditioning the uses lighter weights, but it wasn’t part of the free week.
I’d recommend checking this place out if you’re looking for a place to get in strength and conditioning with a great community of women! It’s totally the type of place I’d join in the future.
