My Favorite Hamstring Stretches {Flexible Feb Week 2 Winner}

This challenge is definitely encouraging me to stretch when I’d usually skip it, but I’m still not as flexible as I used to be. It’ll take time!  I was able to do TWO yoga classes last week (one with Casey in St. Louis, and one through GaiamTV when I was visiting P and he had to work.) Feeling pretty good!

This week’s video highlights my favorite hamstring stretches. My neck and shoulders get the most sore, but my hamstring are definitely the tightest. Anyone else?

As usual, please tell me your own favorite hamstring stretches so I can add some new ones to my rotation.

  1. Hamstrings are a two joint muscle (they cross your knee and hip) which is why you are able to bend forward when your knees are bent because that puts the muscle on slack a little bit. When your knees are extended in makes it harder for you to bend at the hip because it is stretched at the knee. just a fun fact :) have a happy sunday!

Those are the same stretches that I use too :) One thing that I find really helpful is that stretch machine thing that you sit in and rock back on at the gym…here is a pic (http://hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/stretching2.jpg?w=225&h=300) anyways…that really helps loosen my always tight hamstrings :) Have a great week!

  3. Great video! I love these stretching vlogs. My left hamstring has been SO tight lately, so I really need to work on it. You should definitely do a quads video! I feel like my quads need to be way looser, but I have a tough time figuring out how to stretch them well.

  4. Great video! I can’t really think of any other hamstring stretches besides those basic ones :) When I visited the sports chiro when I was running, he said I was very much quad dominant and my hammies were weak. He suggested doing hamstring curls on the exercise ball. I have no idea if that would impact/help/hinder flexibility at all??? Just thought I’d mention it!

  5. The figure 4 stretch u did stretshes the piriformis muscle. Not hamstring. Butterfly stretch stretches adductors/int rot. Again not has. Maybe do some research before you make a video?!

  6. Totally agree! I am SO inflexible when it comes to my hammies… but my neck and shoulders are where I carry the most stress. I need to spend some more time making my hamstrings feel loved! lol!

  7. Love me some margaritas!!!!! My fiancé and I have our favorite Mexican restaurant, Mi Cabana! So good and they just opened one right near the house so extra bonus!!
