Five Things Friday 2.22.13

Happy Friday!

snow

Any other midwesterners get hit with snow and ice yesterday? Ours started coming down around 10:30am and the roads were a MESS. I got home from the gym and parked it on the couch all afternoon. Perfect time to slowly get through all my emails.

Here’s a quick recap of my week!

Five Things I Ate:

New Chobani flavors. I loved the pear even more than the banana, because it was just slightly sweet. Hard to beat pineapple though! I still want to try the new Flips…that chocolate is screaming my name after Lent.

Jelly beans & Valentine’s Day Lollipops. Those + some Blue Diamond almonds were my couch snack of choice yesterday while I was going through emails. It’s been a while and I wanted a little sugar buzz of happiness to get me through the inbox.

(yes that is me hoarding a handful in my shirt.)

Lots of fried eggs. Lots. Like almost every day with lunch.

eggs and sweet potatoes

A big ole salad with peppers, guac, and eggs for lunch one day. My mom was astonished that I ate the whole container of lettuce with my salad. She thought it served four….

Oats for breakfast! Still loving the egg white and flax oats + almond butter. I have an almost empty jar to use now…the best!

Five Days of Workouts

I went a little insane with the workouts this week. I had too many fun things to do!! I suppose it will balance out those weeks I’m super busy or just not feeling it as much. Remember it’s a personal thing – do what works for you!

Mon: Barre Class + Best Body Bootcamp circuits

Tues: Two spin classes! And they were both awesome.

Wed: Vinyasa Flow + Best Body Bootcamp circuit workouts

Thurs: Spin class + Abs. This was a purely strength spin class – we got on a HUGE 16 level hill and then never came off of it. KILLED MY LEGS. Way less sprinting/cardio than a usual spin class, but an awesome workout in other ways. It’s so great to change it up some times! My instructor said she only does that class when it’s just women because the men complain ;)

Fri: No clue! I would love to get in a long run if my legs are up for it. I’ll have to see if the weather allows me to get to the gym. Other wise some rest or an at home workout will do.

Five Six Posts I Loved:

Dear Lou – A beautiful Valentine to my city.

How to Make a Quick Healthy Weeknight Dinner – Anne shares her method, which is pretty much the same thing I do! It’s rare that I use recipes..usually it’s a mish mosh of things I have on hand following this general plan.

Observations on Change – Rachel is such a great writer.

THIS. THIS FACEBOOK THING I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT! Thank you Katy, for allowing me to find tons of messages I ignored last spring.

Fire Up Your Weights Routine – Gina gives an awesome overview on how to weight lift if you aren’t on a set plan. Need to keep this in mind.

Bonus – these Bible verses from Tina to help with emotional eating!

Five Things Making Me Smile:

Salt. I just recently realized how awesome salt is. My mom and aunt are really sensitive to it (their fingers swell like crazy) so I grew up never salting anything. I don’t have any blood pressure issues to worry about, so now sea salt is my best friend. On eggs. On sweet potatoes. On almonds. Salt all the things. Plus I think it keeps my electrolytes in balance.

SCHOOOLLL! Wahoo! I am so pumped to finally be finished with the application process and have some great options. And also to have it out in the open. Man it was weird to try to share my life and leave out that big piece. But now I have to make a really hard decision. That does not make me as happy.

The Daily Skimm. It brightens every single morning and keeps me in the loop of important world events that I should pay more attention to. Plus it’s funny.  And if you can make congress funny, I will read you.

A week of mostly hate-free blog comments. Is it sad that that makes me happy? And notice I said hate free, not disagreement free. There was some disagreement this week, but it was polite and not at all snarky.

The professional photos we got back from the Kotex GenerationKNOW event. They are cracking me up. Me trying to be all model-like. I uploaded them to the Facebook page so check it out if you want!

  1. Definitely NOT sad that you’re happy to have a positive week of comments! I often notice the ones that are out of line, but try not to get into it because I know that they’re just looking for the reactions. Disagreeing is one thing, being spiteful and rude is another! And YES WORK IT that photo is killer haha you look like you’re having so much fun :)

  2. Ohhhhh welcome to the glorious world of salt haha! Thank you for reminding me just how fabulous Jelly Bellys are, yum!

  3. Oh my gosh I just found tons of messages I’ve been ignoring in my Facebook inbox. I gave up Facebook for lent but had to sign on to check and now I feel HORRIBLE! Thanks for sharing!

  4. You had a pretty awesome week! The model picture of you is gorgeous! I’m the most awkward person ever when I’m being photographed. I definitely do the same thing with candy in my shirt and salt and I are very good friends. It does a great job keeping those electrolytes up and it adds flavors!

  5. Aw, thanks for the link love!

And I bet your legs were fried by that workout. My legs burn just thinking about the double spin and BBB workouts leading up to it. Haha! Oh…fried eggs are one of my all time fave lunch staples.

  6. Lol at the picture! I have no idea how to act in photoshoots either.

  7. LOVE eggs over salad! And I definitely ate 1/2 a container of lettuce the other day. Not sorry bout it! ;)

  8. Salt is my BFF. I salt almost everything- I firmly believe that it can take a meal from bland to WOW.

Thumbs up for a week of hate-free comments : )!

  9. Haha, LOVE the picture, you definitely look like you could be a celebrity. Oh, and even just seeing a picture of that jar is making me crave OIAJ. I guess I need to eat pb faster!

  10. Thanks for the link love! :)

  11. Take a rest day, girl! You’ve done 7 complete workouts in 4 days (well for the “average” person I guess). Go play in the snow!

    • I agree- rest and then make some snow angels :)

I live on the East Coast and we are getting pounded too! Cannot wait for summer!

      • I asked my parents to go make snow angels with me last night!!
I may rest, but I have a definite rest day tomorrow (Travel) and likely a few more days over the weekend, so I may get in my best body bootcamp if I can make it on the roads!

    • Yes! I have a definite rest day tomorrow (Traveling) plus a few more days over the weekend, so Iw ill get rest. But it means I want to get in that last best body bootcamp workout today! I’ll see how my legs feel – won’t push it if I’m sore!

  12. You look so pretty in that photo! You could definitely model! Bet the young doctors are going to be swooning over you :)

  13. I grew up the same way with salt. My dad hates salt and thinks it’s so bad for us. I grew up with unsalted pretzels and with him picking the salt off the things on my plate before I would eat them. While salt can be good I have a really healthy respect for it. I think I drive Josh bonkers sometimes because he likes to salt everything and I just don’t understand it. ;p

  14. boo to all this snow! our streets were plowed overnight so i made it to the gym no problem this morning. now i just want it to melt. FAST!

  15. Love those professional photos you posted. And loving the new FB profile pic! Happy Friday love!

  16. That model pose you are striking… LOL. Look out fashion week!
