Five Things Friday 2. 8.13

Happy Friday! I get freaked out because I have meetings on Thursdays, and then I feel like I have a ton more to do at the end of the week. But part of me having a flexible schedule means working weekends too, and that is worth it to me!

This weekend is Mardi Gras in St. Louis, which has a disastrous history for me. I’m really not into the crowded, black-out drunk, flashing scene, but I have some friends coming in town so I may have to suck it up for at least a little bit.

    Are you celebrating this weekend?

Here we go!

Five Things I Ate:

Green Juice! So glad I figured out how to juice with my blender. It take 10 minutes tops in the morning, and has replaced my coffee for now. (I love the taste of coffee so I know I’ll start drinking it again.)

The combo of Greek yogurt mixed with stevia and PB2 on top of a sweet potato with some berries. It’s amazing. (And yes I eat real nut butter too, but I think PB2 mixes into yogurt better. Both can work into a balanced diet, for me.)

Eggs on english muffins. Regular old white flour english muffins my parents had in the fridge. It wouldn’t normally be my first choice to eat white flour, but it’s part of my intuitive-eating-nothing-is-off-limits eating and saves me money.lunch egg sandwich

Homemade bread. I made a sweet bread using juice pulp (I know) and it actually tastes great! Recipe up later today!!

Blue Diamond butter pecan almonds as snacks. Holy moly, each blue diamond flavor gets better and better.  Which is your favorite?

Five Workouts:

Sun: Bikram Yoga. I’m so glad I bought a 10-class card for the spring. It can be hellish while you’re in there, but I always feel so calm, clean, and flexy afterward. Check off the FlexibleFebruary stretching for the week!

Monday: Hill run + 3 Best Body Bootcamp circuits. I ended up doing 90 weighted step-ups. Holy sore legs!

Tues: Spin class. I went at night since I was at work with my dad in the morning, and I was almost the only person again! I told the instructor she could just go home, but 5 minutes in another lady showed up. We did 20 MINUTES OF TABATA in class!! She said she’s building up to an entire tabata class. I told her I wouldn’t go :)

Wed: 30 min elliptical and 2 Best Body Bootcamp circuits.

Thurs: 45 min spin class in the AM, then went to test out a yoga class at my gym. I’ve never done yoga there before (sketched by yoga classes that aren’t at yoga studios) but I’d like to do some regular flow yoga without paying for another studio.  Turns out I was the only one there AGAIN – wtf gym!? The instructor and I chatted for about 15 minutes and then did short private practice that focused on stretching out my legs. Not intense at all, which was perfect since I was pretty sore and needed to get in some Flexible February action!

We talked chatted throughout class, and she was awesome! She teaches all over St. Louis, including Barre Classes, if anyone local is interested! I’m going to try to get some of the STL Bloggers to go together!

Bonus – Friday:Not sure! If my legs are still sore I’ll take my rest day Friday. Otherwise maybe Bikram, maybe a medium-length run with some Best Body Bootcamp.

Five Posts I Loved:

Strong Is Not The New Sexy – MizFit rocks. That is all.

Paleo Diet Review AND the follow-up Paleo Benefits posts from Side of Sneakers. Cool to hear both perspectives from a Registered Dietician, especially after writing about why it didn’t work for me.

Jumbled Thoughts on how Blogging Aided my Body Image Issues - are we twins?

Dealing with Anxiety – no I don’t love that Colleen went through this, but I love that she’s sharing and removing the stigma around pyschological disorders, seeing therapists, and medication.

Back to Basics Diet vs. Exercise – Lindsay is doing a Back to Basics series and this one is super important to remember! We might skip the gym one day, or a few days, or a while especially if we’re on vacation, but it’s our DIET that makes the difference!

Five Things Making Me Happy:

My best friend from college texted my roommates and me a picture of our “Sisterhood of the Traveling Dress.” Anyone have one of these? I don’t even remember who bought it, but we ALL wore it ALL the time. It was basically whatever we threw on when we didn’t know what to wear! Well LB found it at the bottom of her closet and says it’s time for it to go….I voted I wear it to my friend’s wedding this summer instead. Not sure I won that battle.

Nelly has a new song. NELLY!! THE PRIDE AND JOY OF ST. LOUIS! True life: I was Nelly for Halloween my sophomore year of high school. My friend Maggie and I wore big basketball jerseys, had cornrows, and even the little bandaid under our eyes. We rapped Air Force Ones throughout the night. It was awesome.

My mom told me that Bootylicious is her favorite workout song. I am so happy I have her genes.

I organized our pantry. Being able to see all of my teas makes me very happy. I don’t care if that’s sad.

Going to work with my dad. A few long-time readers may know that my relationship with my dad hasn’t always been the best, but going to work with him has made us a lot closer! We laugh and I ask all kinds of questions, plus it’s cool to see him in a professional setting for the first time.

  • Your Turn – What’s making you smile this week?
