Flexible February Challenge

During week two of Best Body Bootcamp, I made a goal of stretching for 10 minutes each day. That’s not a whole lot, but once I timed myself I realized I was definitely overestimating the amount of time I spent on my hamstrings and quads.

Stretching used to be part of my workout routine. My run wasn’t actually over when the treadmill turned off – I still had a full stretching routine to do! But somewhere in the past few years that ended, and especially without a regular yoga practice, I need to make sure I stretch!

During the month of February I’m working with Challenge Loop to host a stretching challenge for anyone that wants to participate. It starts this Sunday, February 3rd and ends on Saturday, March 2nd. That’s four full Sunday to Saturday weeks.

Here are the details:

"Flexible February Challenge"

“Welcome to the Fitting It All In Flexible February challenge! Since so many people started working on new fitness goals at the beginning of the year , I thought a February challenge that makes sure we all stay flexible would be perfect! Stretching can improve performance and decrease risk of injury, but it is often the part of the workout that is left out or rushed through.

There will be weekly winners with this challenge, and one grand prize winner. The challenge lasts four weeks, starting Sunday February 3rd and ending Saturday March 2nd. The goal is to get in 60 minutes of stretching each week, divided however you’d like. Yoga counts! You can choose 10 minutes on your own after you work out six days a week, 15 minutes four times a week, two 30 minute yoga podcasts at home or just one 60 minute class at your favorite studio . It’s up to you – make it work with your schedule.

How To Sign Up:

To accept the challenge, download the FREE app on your phone (it takes 2 seconds – just search “Challenge Loop”) -itunes.apple.com/us/app/challengeloop/id527824600, find Flexible February under “Prize Challenges”, and you’re good to go!) Make sure to leave a comment at the end of each week saying you’ve completed the goal. I will keep track of who completes the challenge and choose the winners at random.

Comments

  1. I’m hosting a Plank challenge that starts on the 4th and I may sign up for this one as well! I woefully neglected stretching in the past and am recovering from an injury due to that neglect now. Trying to get into the habit of at least 10 min a day!

  2. I’m in!

  3. Wow this is really cool- especially with the iphone app! You’re getting serious ;) I’ll definitely be partaking in this although mostly because I’m on the track team and we stretch twice a day every day. Plus yoga once or twice a week, I’m a stretching machine! (in season, at least…)

  4. I’m totally in, but I can’t find Flexible February on the app under Active Challenges. Anyone else?

  5. Stretching is something that I often neglect as well!! Count me in :)

  6. I’m in!! This should be fun! Thanks, Clare!

  7. Clare,
I downloaded the Challenge Loop, but I can’t find your challenge!!

  8. Yvette Dunn says:

I’m in! Increasing my flexibility is a goal I am working on this year – by the end of February, stretching should be a daily HABIT! Thanks, Clare!

  9. Super fun idea-love this!!!

  10. Love this idea! I barely EVER stretch anymore, and I can totally feel it in my hamstrings; they feel so tight!

  11. i’m pretty bad about stretching, so this is great! count me in.

  12. Hmm, I have a few challenges going on, but I was just thinking of adding stretching/yoga to my BBC goals as well.

  13. Yippee! Lately I’ve been setting the timer on my phone for 20 mins. at night to stretch, this will help also! Thanks Clare!

  14. I am also guilty of not stretching enough! This is a great idea!!

  15. I think it’s a sign – my training partner today lectured me on how I don’t stretch enough (my hams are so tight I’ve been getting a sore lower back!) According to his chiropractor at least 30 minutes of good stretching a week is necessary…now I have no excuse with this challenge :)

  16. My January goal was 60 mins of yoga a week. Love it so far. I will be participating in this challenge for extra motivation.

  17. Love this!! I’m so excited! I LOVE stretching!!!

  18. So many great prizes and SUCH an important challenge. I love that you are focusing on flexibility for your challenge. Refreshing. :)

  19. Hey Clare, I am having trouble getting the widget to show up on my side bar!!

  20. This is awesome! Just signed up. :)
