Hi from the big midwest ice storm!
Everything is closed today, including SLU! It’s just now starting to ice and they are predicting half to an inch of ice today and tomorrow, so we are hunkered down at home. That means a four day weekend for us, which in med school terms = four whole days off to study! How’s the weather where you are?
I didn’t get around to posting last Friday, so today I have a big list of Friday Favorites!
These bracelets are hand carved by artisans in Bali, and each bracelet purchased helps gives families an income to support themselves. The carving is a tradition that has been passed down for generations, and by making these bracelets they are able to stay in their villages with their families instead of leaving to find work. After seeing Poverty, Inc, I really believe in this type of social change.
They have a lot of different designs and different color choices for the bands. I love the ones I have — a Cross, a lotus, and a compass. They each have really special meaning to me, and I love supporting a good cause.
Here’s some info on oil pulling. I’ve tried it a few times before but it never really stuck. But my best friend Laura has been doing it daily for a while now and said it has really helped whiten her teeth, so I decided to give it another go. I’m using the Skinny Peppermint Coconut Oil, and the minty flavor makes a huge difference to me. It just tastes fresher and cleaner in my mouth. It’s the first thing I do in the morning while I’m getting ready, and then I spit it out and grab my coffee. As the article I linked to says, there isn’t a whole lot of real data on oil pulling yet, but I figured it’s worth a shot! Have you ever tried it?
The new season got me back into it, and now I’m re-watching the whole series. It’s just as good the second time around.
I got this on major sale at Loft, and I’m obsessed. It feels like you’re wearing fleece, but looks like a chic little black dress. The Lou & Grey line makes such comfortable stuff! It actually looks a lot less “swingy” on I’ve found, and you can definitely size down.
I’ve had this Kayla Itsines “Bikini Body Guide” workout plan for a while now, and while I’ve never done the whole thing as intended, I love using the circuit workouts a few times a week at the gym. I started up again as a way to be more efficient with my gym time now that boards studying is ramping up. I don’t know how she does it, but somehow just 28 minutes kicks. my. butt! (Also, this is what all the #BBG instagram hashtags you see are about)
This was a Christmas gift for me! Regular manicures are not in the budget, but regular nail polish chips off immediately. I was curious to try this new line and really like it so far! It feels thinner than a gel coat you at at a salon, but it dries pretty quickly and stays well.
I do work with Vega, but these I actually went and bought on my own. I love getting the extra dose of vitamins in my snacks, plus these taste SO GOOD. Definitely a great mid afternoon treat!
You guys, I cannot rave enough about these. K.Deer surprised me with two pairs of their famous yoga pants and I am in love. First, they are LONG (they have multiple lengths, but the standard legging is long even for my freakishly long legs) and they have a long, wide waist band that doesn’t cut you in the middle of your tummy. They are a light compression, so they hold everything in without feeling too tight or thick. And of course they are CUTE! I want a million pairs!
My older brother got all the girls in the family these candles for Christmas, and they smell SO GOOD. It’s a little brighter and fresher than most of my other candles, so I keep it at my desk for when I study. It’s seriously incredible.
ActuallyOrganic sent me a bottle of their argon oil, and I’ve been using it mostly on my face! It’s great for super dry skin in the winter. I also have put a little bit on the ends of my hair after I style it, and have rubbed it on my hands and cuticles. Multi purpose.
Alright, that’s it for today! I’ve been writing this post in spurts in between cleaning and laundry and drying my hair, so now it’s time to start the studying. Today is all about learning drugs.
Have a great weekend!
