I am sitting here trying to come up with a theme to write about today, but I’m blank.
I had my final exam for our renal module today, which means I’m half way through my second year of medical school. That seems totally insane! Not only is time flying by way too fast, but I also just can’t imagine being ready to start clerkships in a few months. Only three classes left, then I’m supposed to be ready; to have learned everything I need to know to take step one of boards and start working with real patients in the hospital. That really doesn’t seem possible!
Things have gotten intense this year. In some ways we are all a little more relaxed about classes, I think because we have a better feel for how they work and what we need to get done. Classes are more interesting this year, also, since they are more about disease process and clinical care as opposed to basic science. But we also are a little bit more high strung with boards coming up. There is just a little extra pressure and edge to everything. Everyone is busy being leaders of all the med school organizations and projects, and there are definite moments of, “When will I ever get a break?!”
Add that to the normal twenty-something stressors of relationships, wondering what your future will look like, money, etc and it can be a lot to handle!
But regardless, life is so good. Classes are going well, I love my roommates and my friends, I get to do a ton of fun stuff. Taking a step back and being grateful for how much you have puts things in perspective. Sure things are busy and stressful, but everyone has that in their life. How awesome that my busy and stressful gets to be for something I love so much!
This weekend is a little break in the action. We are in between classes and I’m not traveling, and I cannot wait to just wind down a little. I have work to do (of course) but I can do it slowly and on my own time.
Next weekend I’m in Seattle! I have an AAMC conference and I cannot wait to see the city and learn from a ton of other medical students. Any recommendations for places to eat or things to do while I’m there? I won’t have a ton of free time, so want to make sure to hit all the hot spots.
This week has flown. I feel like I JUST got back from Indianapolis and suddenly it’s Friday again. Time flies when you’re studying for a final!:) Hope you all have a fun weekend planned!
