Y’all, these antibiotics rock.
(For those of you just tuning in, I was prescribed antibiotics for SIBO. Read about that here.)
This is a perfect example of how I absolutely believe in and promote lifestyle and more holistic approaches to wellness, but also know that western medicine is powerful and wonderful and has a hugely important place in our healthcare system.
Yesterday was my last day of taking the Xifaxin my GI doctor prescribed for my SIBO, and they’ve been GREAT. I haven’t had any pain or major bloating – in fact my bloat is less than it’s ever been. I have some pretty crazy before and after pictures of my stomach bloat.
This past weekend I even ate some things that normally would make me feel bad, but no reaction! It’s a miracle. It makes me wonder how much I was just ignoring or passing off as a weird stomach ache or normal bloat before that was actually due to SIBO. If I didn’t know that it’s not good to be on antibiotics all the time, I would take these forever. Being able to eat and feel good and not feel so lethargic and bloated all the time is INCREDIBLE!
As I said before, SIBO is commonly recurring and many people have to go back on the antibiotics semi regularly. Unfortunately I got a letter from my insurance company saying they won’t pay from the antibiotics again. They are pretty expensive, I guess. So that means I need to try to control this as much as possible without antibiotics — food and lifestyle choices. I’m really hoping that I can do my best with a Specific Carbohydrate type diet, which so far hasn’t felt limited because there are plenty of great foods to eat, including certain types of sugar and fruits and vegetables. I also know that stress reduction is a big deal, so I’m going to try to instate a season of more rest now that my crazy travel and Bourbon Chase are almost over.
I’m just so thrilled to be feeling better right now. I can tell my mood has lightened and my energy levels are better, as well.
