Pharmacology started Monday – full speed ahead! It’s pretty cool to be learning about something so important to every day life as a physician, but of course I already feel overwhelmed with the amount to learn. After Pharmacology we have Pathology and Ethics, then spring break, then Hematology, Neurology and finally Behavioral Medicine before summer.
We’ve got a lot going on in the next few months, too. There are two big charity events for different campus groups that require lots of planning, plus my class is starting to take over all of the groups and clubs as the MS2s start to study for boards. Everyone now has a million other things going on besides school, and this MS1 year is the one all the older students want to go back to because of all the free time! Ummm..what? Yikes!
As for me, as the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives MS1 rep, I’m working with the Business In Medicine interest group to create an elective. We really want to help students understand the business side of being a physician, from practice models to entrepreneurship to politics and insurance options. It’s pretty cool and something that will be very valuable, I think.
My baby is still the Wellness Learning Community and I’m happy to say we got the distinction we created approved by the Curriculum Management Committee right before Christmas break! Students in my class and onward can now graduate with a Distinction in Wellness Outreach and Education. Fancy 🙂 This semester we will be working to bring a lot more events to students, including some speakers, fitness events, mental health trainings, and volunteer projects – potentially one bringing mindfulness techniques to adolescent patients at the children’s hospital across the street which I’m excited about. We also are going to do our best to update the website and make it more functional. We have no where near enough time to get all of that done this semester, but hopefully eventually! It’s all just too awesome.
And then of course I’ve got my project with Colleen and some ideas I want to write about for the blog. I need to start actually sharing the simple recipes I make, like this awesome sweet potato and zucchini breakfast hash flavored with thyme and rosemary. I’m going to write it down the next time I make it.
As for other random life events…I’m feeling the need to get rid of TONS of clothes – even more than I already do. I want to totally streamline, but that will be a process of gradually adding quality pieces I can streamline with 🙂 The budget I’m working on will determine how quickly that can happen — I’m trying out just a standard excel budget instead of Mint since I haven’t been able to stick to Mint in the past.
I also am still contemplating a spring half marathon, but might not because I’m loving being able to lift and do yoga freely without a training plan in the way. Yoga teacher training may become a reality this summer too….!!!
And finally, I just downloaded Spotify and it’s changing my world. Welcome to 2016, Clare.
So those are the updates. Lots going on, but I love it all. I just wish I had more hours in the day – don’t we all? Let me know what’s going on with you guys! Any fun projects coming up this Spring?
