My biggest trouble with workout shoes is finding something that has enough arch support for when I run, but is lightweight and versatile for weights and fitness classes. When I go to the gym I like to run and lift, and I definitely don’t want to change shoes in between.
I shared my over-pronator challenge with the fit specialist at the New Balance store and she immediately got to work finding me my dream shoe. I’ve been to fancy running stores and been fitted for shoes before, but this was a whole other level. She mapped the pressure points of my feet, videotaped me walking to analyze my gait, and then brought out some special insoles to put in my new shoes. YES…I could chose any shoe, even if it wasn’t designed as an arch support shoe, and she’d replace the insole with one made for my feet. A whole new world of shoes opened up for me!!
She was so knowledgable when I asked her about how the shoes were designed and what made them appropriate for cross training vs. running. I was really impressed. And I’m also obsessed with these shoes! They are the 711v3 Heathered Trainer and are so light but have just the right amount of arch support to prevent my ankles from rolling in. New Balance has totally upped their game – no long just the heavy comfort shoes I used to associate with the brand.
I’ve partnered with New Balance St. Louis for the next year or so, and cannot wait to share more of their workout options with you all. I wouldn’t have immediately thought New Balance when I wanted a new workout outfit, but their new fall line is CUTE! I was like a kid in a candy store trying on my new gear.
First, these Trinamic Tights are probably the best running leggings I’ve ever had. They are high rise with a thick waist band that has a draw string so they won’t fall down (my biggest complaint,) and they hug me in without being thick and heavy. The teeny perforations at the back of the knee are for breathability, and the white stripe part is reflective for darker runs. I am doing most of my runs in the form of sprints before I lift at the gym, and luckily they work just perfectly for that too.
The Transform Perfect Tank really is just that…perfect! I love the cut with the rouched sides, and especially love the back that can show off a cute colorful sports bra. And then don’t even get me started on this En Route Jacket. 100% hands down the SOFTEST thing I have ever put on my body. The thin fleece lining feels like a dreamy fluffy pillow of goodness that is somehow both super warm and lightweight. When I brought it home I made my roommate just feel it. I want a blanket made out of it.
It was 95 degrees in St. Louis today so I haven’t had a reason to wear it yet, but I will be living in it all winter, trust me.
This is what the majority of the pictures look like when I ask a friend to take them. Pat was yelling, “PHOTO SHOOT! WORK IT!”
New Balance Run Club
If you’re local, join me next Thursday evening the 28th for the New Balance Run Club!! Any and everyone to join them at the Richmond Heights store for a run, social time, and snacks and drinks afterward. There are 3, 5, and 7 mile options (the 7 mile goes into Forest Park) with a variety of paces so don’t worry about having to be super speedy.
I used to be a big distance runner, but it’s rare these days that I go out for much more than a 3-4 mile run. I’m excited to have new friends to run with (makes it SO much better!) and motivate me to get a little more mileage in. I am hoping to bring my med school friends for a little week night workout and get together, too!
If you’re local, check out these clothes and get fitted for your perfect shoe at one of three New Balance stores!
Hope to see you at Run Club!!
