A recap of New Year’s Eve 2017, the last few days of Hilton Head with my boyfriend, and starting Pediatrics this week!
Hey, friends! Happy 2018!!
Thank you so, so much for your feedback on the blog survey I recently posted. I am truly taking it all into consideration as I plan out the direction of the blog going forward. I plan to let you all know the general results soon. For now, just a quick check in since overwhelmingly people said they just like the life updates the best!
The Last Few Days in Hilton Head
I planned on getting a little more work done over the weekend, but once my boyfriend got to Hilton Head that went out the window. Instead I took it totally easy and spent time with my family and him. It was a good decision – I’ll catch up this week. Friday we went to cocktail hour and dinner at the golf club my dad belongs to. On Saturday my boyfriend and I went on a run/walk around the neighborhood and talked for a while. Then the family went to the beach to let Milo run around, which was adorable! He’s the cutest little guy. That evening we played games while watching football, followed by a quick dip in the hot tub.

New Year’s Eve 2017
Most of the day on Sunday was spent in Savannah! We had to drop my parents off at the airport, so my older brother, his girlfriend, my boyfriend and I decided to do lunch and a quick tour there. The city is just so dang gorgeous – I never get sick of all the history and beauty.
Once home we relaxed (aka watched a few episodes of True Detective which I finally got to!) before getting ready for dinner out. We snacked on brie, crackers, and some champagne beforehand since we didn’t eat until 9pm. I had made reservations at RedFish for the four of us which was delicious! We split calamari and a bottle of Malbec, and I had the salmon with couscous and veggies as my entree. We got back home around 10:30pm and flipped through some of the New Years Eve stuff on TV before deciding to just watch the last episode of True Detective. It’s so creepy and good!!
That episode finished about 5 minutes before midnight, so we turned on the New York City countdown (holy brave people out there in the cold!) and celebrated with some champagne and midnight kisses. We didn’t last longer than 12:30am before heading up to bed, though. It was definitely the most relaxed New Year’s Eves I’ve had in a long time and I was not at all mad about it. Felt great not to have a headache on January 1st!
The drive home was about 12 hours, but wasn’t too bad thanks to a nap, some good reading, and listening to Notre Dame beat LSU in the Citrus Bowl on ESPN radio! The worst part was that it got progressively colder rand colder at each rest stop — eek! It seems like the whole country is FREEZING right now!!
I got back to my house around 8:15 and got to work unpacking, organizing, and watching the end of the Bachelor. I was so happy to remember I did a lot of cleaning and organizing before I left two weeks ago!! A few more hours to get things done tonight would be nice, but I need to get to sleep. My sleep schedule is going to be a bit of a mess this week while adjusting from vacation to 6:00 am starts at the hospital. Luckily tomorrow is just Pediatrics orientation, so I don’t have to be there until 9:00. I’m both excited and nervous about peds – I’m actually starting to think I won’t love it as much as I always thought I would! I adore kids, I’m just not sure I’ll like having them as my patients. We’ll see, though! I start with 4 weeks of inpatient which will be 6 days a week and pretty busy, followed by 4 weeks of outpatient clinics with an easier schedule.
I hope you all have a wonderful start to 2018!!
