A few weeks ago I posted about a sweet snack that I've been making since I was in college, and many of you were intrigued. Really, it's just a chocolate flavored yogurt. By using cocoa powder, stevia, and Greek yogurt you can create a healthy dessert! The Greek yogurt provides tons of satiating protein and friendly probiotics to aid digestion. And we all know chocolate is amazing for mental health, but did you know cocoa can decrease blood pressure, increase good HDL cholesterol, and . . .
So Friday morning I had a service appointment because my poor baby camry got recalled. Apparently the passenger window clicker things can catch fire. I'm pretty sure that only happens .00001% of the time, and I'm pretty sure I use the passenger window clickers even less than that, but regardless I made an appointment and took it in. The point of telling you that was that I had to get up and workout first thing instead of having breakfast and going a little later on. I was bummed about this. I . . .
While in San Diego, I've been following P's workout plan. He played water polo in college and was on the triathlon team in grad school, so he combines track and strength workouts that his coaches have given him. He does a lot of biking and sprints for cardio, and then full body workouts designed for swimmers. Here's an example of a full body workout we did! We warmed up with cardio (10-15 minutes on the bike when we were short on time or about an hour of cardio when we could) then completed . . .
Well I did it! For not being trained, I'm really happy with how the Dallas half marathon went. I ran the whole time, but didn't put any pressure on myself for pace. I just went with what felt good and ended up finishing at 1:53:21. Not a PR by any means, but a decent pace and great motivation to properly train for more races this spring. I tossed and turned ALL night. I kept thinking I was oversleeping, probably because I didn't actually have to wake up until 6am! Perks of a race that . . .
I had a 4:30 am wake up call this morning to take the lovely LoLo to the airport. I threw on my gym clothes and drove straight there afterward, but still wasn't super high on energy. My legs were sore from FRAN yesterday (AHHH!) so I wasn't in the mood to run. Instead I set up camp on an elliptical with the latest Self Magazine. And then I got bored. Because I finished my magazine and ellipticals are boring. Ever get that way? Where you don't necessarily want to be finished working out, you . . .
Crossfit boxes have a tradition of doing "Hero" workouts on military Holidays. "Heros" are workouts named after fallen soldiers and are notoriously difficult. The type you look at and go "um, seriously?" Well, since Monday was Veteran's day, we of course did a Hero. We did "Ralph", which didn't look too bad on paper but was pretty difficult once you got to the burpees and rope climbs. I scaled mine, of course. Apparently one day isn't enough, and Tiger's Den has declared this "Hero Week." . . .
Happy Veteran's Day! I know it was technically yesterday, but today is the celebrated holiday for those that actually get to celebrate by not having work, which I think is almost no one. P, of course, is one of them. I am so proud of my sailor! *** I got a question about my health coaching - how I get clients, how I run my practice. etc. I know some of you are either enrolled in Integrative Nutrition or are curious about it, so I'll explain a bit. First, to learn more about the . . .
This isn't much of a recipe. There are only five ingredients and there is no cooking involved. BUT it is one of my favorite breakfasts lately so I'll give you a how-to: Cinnamon Sugar Yogurt with Soft Cinnamon Apples Serves: 1 Time: 5min Ingredients: 1 container or 1 serving plain Greek yogurt Sweetener of choice (stevia, honey, etc) ~ 2 teaspoons cinnamon, separated 1 TBSP chia seeds 1 apple Directions: First, dice your apple and place in a . . .
I admit I didn't pay attention to much of the actual awards part of the Emmys. I meant to, but I was getting some work done and talking to people and so was distracted. I did make sure to watch watch the red carpet (and of course went back and looked at everything online) so let's talk dresses. There honestly weren't any that blew me away this year, nor any that I felt were just completely ridiculous disasters. But of course there were some I liked more than others, so here are my . . .
One of the things I've been curious about since learning more about the Paleo diet is the whole cauliflower-as-rice thing. I pretty much like all food, including zucchini "noodles" and spaghetti squash, so I figured it'd be good. I just didn't know about texture! I bought a head of cauliflower last weekend but didn't have a recipe in mind. I found this recipe for Chinese Pork Fried Rice from The Clothes Make The Girl (great website) but adapted it to use what I had in the fridge. My version . . .
