Stuffing your white coat pockets with snacks is essential during third year. You never know when you’ll get a break to eat! I’ve been trying to eat a substantial egg breakfast each morning because I know it’ll be a while until my next meal, but it is not easy for me to eat a lot at 6:30am.
Nuts and bars seem to be the easiest options to stash, and if you haven’t tried Quest bars you are missing out! They are without a doubt the most delicious bars I’ve ever had, and even better is that they are high protein and low sugar. I love that for long days when I need to be able to keep working, stay focused, and not crash.
I was actually on a huge Quest Bar kick during my post-bac year at UVA, but then my stomach got all funky and I was eventually diagnosed with SIBO. I’ve steered clear of them since then because I didn’t know how my body would react to the fiber blend used. But I recently found out the formula was slightly changed to use soluble corn fiber, so I decided to give them another shot. So far so good — no stomach aches and happy taste buds!
I went to Target and was happy to see they carried tons of flavors! My all time favorite flavor is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, so of course I had to pick that up. I also tried the new Oatmeal Chocolate Chip which is so, so delicious as well. Next on my list are the mint chocolate chip and mocha chocolate chip!
I try to eat whole foods for the most part, but that’s just not always possible in the hospital. I am making sure I get in some veggies and fruit at breakfast and dinner so that I feel okay if all I get to eat the rest of the day is pocket snacks. And if I know I have a Quest Bar in my white coat, I may even want to eat only pocket snacks!
