Life is good here in Hilton Head!
I’m getting into the swing of solo life and loving every second.
I’ve been sleeping for almost exactly 9.5 hours every night, which is simultaneously amazing and terrifying. My body can’t continue wanting that much sleep…medical school doesn’t allow it!
Mornings have started with coffee and journaling on the balcony. Then I’ve either done some yoga, gone for a bike ride, or one day I went to the gym for some elliptical and weights. That may happen again tomorrow, too.
11am-4pm each day are spent in and out of the pool. It is HOT!! 100 degrees means the umbrella by the pool is very necessary. I’ll float in the water of for a bit, get out and read in the chair, then get a little overheated and come inside for some HGTV or TLC watching.
Then repeat! I finished Grain Brain yesterday (more to come on that!) and just started Daring Greatly. A teacher trainee friend gave the book to me on the condition that I promise to pass it on to someone else when I’m done.
I’ve started to feel guilty when I’m not outside all the time, but my skin really does not need anymore sun! I’ve already had to dig into my parents’ sun screen stash since mine ran out. And that sun hat is permanently on my head.
Once evening hits I have been rinsing off in the shower, making some dinner, and then either curling up with a book or heading to the beach. It’s about a 15-20 minute bike ride away (or 5 min drive) and the 7pm hour is the perfect time to go. The wind brings great waves and the crowds die down.
Around nine I’ve gone upstairs for some more TV, a glass off wine or kombucha, and more reading. It’s been lights out by 10:30-11pm each night.
It’s just heavenly. I’m so lucky. I can’t imagine that i almost didn’t make the drive down here!! I’ve never done anything like this before...where my schedule was entirely my own and I had zero plans or people to organize with. It was strange to get used to, but now it’s oh, so good. I haven’t been bored at all. I actually have tons of things I haven’t gotten around to doing (I brought a canvas to paint and there are bike trails to explore) and just have kept myself busy with other things.
I only have one more day here, and while I’m sad, I’m also excited to get back to St. Louis. The class of 2020 had their White Coat Ceremony today which makes me so eager to meet and welcome them all! Can you believe mine was a year ago? I’m officially a second year medical student now!
Alright…off to do some emails and blog work, then a bit more time outside before the day is over. Hope you’ve had a great weekend!
