What an incredibly wonderful week in Hilton Head with my family.
We came down here for Thanksgiving last year, and apparently it’s becoming a tradition. Hopefully I’ll be able to sneak away for a few days in the coming years, even though I won’t have the whole week off. It’s so rare that my whole family is together (my little brother and his fiancé live in Minneapolis), so we really value the dinners, movies, games, and laughs together!
Family dinner included this fennel and cartelized pancetta salad
Thanksgiving started with a 5k Turkey Trot, thanks to some convincing by Maureen (my little brother’s fiance.) My brothers don’t say no to her yet — I would have had no chance at getting them to run! It was actually a huge race – 2000 people on this little Island — and was really fun! Slow at the beginning, but lots of people were out on their driveways to cheer us on, and there was free beer and food at the finish.
We were home by 9 for breakfast, parade, and pool. My mom and aunt did most of the cooking, but luckily planned well enough to have a few hours out at the pool with us. We had a few friends from the Island over for the big dinner, which included cocktails and appetizers on the porch. One guest brought the most incredible cheesecake I’ve ever had — it’s up there with stuffing as the best part of the meal!
We spent plenty of time in the sun with a book thanks to incredible 75-80 degree weather. I drank coffee in my favorite spot, played a round of golf, and got in a few workouts. I’ve done yoga a few times by myself but also went to Jiva Yoga, my favorite studio here, for a tough and sweaty 90 minute practice.
I also got in some studying!! Not as much as I intended, of course, but I feel like I got a decent start and am ready to continue my boards studying once I get home.
I’m feeling happy, rested, and ready to get back to work for the next three weeks of school before Christmas break. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and got to spend time with family and friends.
Have a great rest of your weekend!
