Sorry for the delay in this post – the week was pretty busy and then I was in Chicago for a friend’s wedding this past weekend. I started Labor & Delivery last week and the evenings were spent getting Beautycounter samples organized and sent. (If you requested some you should be getting them soon! And if you want to get in on the samples in the future, join the Facebook group!)) Now that that’s finished, the next five weeks can be all about studying / project / blogging when I’m not at the hospital. I’m on nights this week, so that’ll mean late afternoon after I wake up from *hopefully* getting good sleep all day!
Here’s the weekly recap!
I’ve been all about leggings with long, oversized cardigans and booties as the weather has gotten colder. I wear my wunderunders all the time (at least 5 years old at this point!), last year’s version of these booties, and am loving this, this, and this (leopard!!) for budget friendly comfy cardigans!
- pizza spaghetti pie – one of my favorite cold weather recipes!
- Oatmeal with fruit and almond butter – it had been forever since I’d eaten oatmeal!
- Hospital cafeteria salads – sometimes with buffalo chicken if they have it on the salad bar!
- Octopus tacos at Barrio in Chicago – recommendation by the lovely Elizabeth and it was SO good!
- A delicious filet at the wedding. And the best bread with whipped butter. Plus wedding cake, of course:)
Mon: Yoga at Metro
Thurs: 30 treadmill cardio
Sat: Stair mill + some yoga at the hotel gym
Labor & Delivery has been a really cool experience so far. I shared a post last week about how I didn’t handle seeing my first vaginal delivery very well, but since then things have gotten much better. C-sections are craziness, but being in the OR and helping out a little bit is awesome. It’s really exciting to be with new moms on such an important day!
I don’t know that I’m getting a full look at what it’s like to be a labor and delivery physician because we don’t have to a lot of the “dirty work.” We basically just round on non-high risk post-partum patients in the morning, and then check on the laboring moms as they prepare for delivery. Lots of time is spent just hanging out (studying) and waiting. Because of that, it seems a lot easier and more fun that I assume it is for the residents. I also definitely am way more interested in the baby than the mom after the delivery. I’m jealous of the people caring for the baby – so that’s a sign that maybe peds would be a better fit than OBGYN?!
I still have two more OBGYN rotations, but I almost wish I had time for more! I’ll get to do Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and then Gyn Surgery, but I don’t get to spend any time on Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gyn Onc, or Urogyn. Students get placed on different services and that’s just the way it worked for me! Let me know if you have any questions!

What I’m Loving:
These Vionic slip-ons! I got them because the company makes shoes with arch support, but they are WAY more comfortable than I even expected. I have gotten compliments every time I wear them! Apparently they are also on Oprah’s Favorite Things list this year, too?!
Ponte Pants — It’s my first time buying them. They are thicker and nicer than leggings, but still work under boots in the winter.
Illuminating Trio, aka “Contouring for Dummies.” (aka me.) I love how EASY it is to give my cheeks a little definition with the three steps, but also that I can use the sticks individually for bronzer, blush, and highlighter.
Away Suitcase. I asked for a new carryon for my birthday, and my sister-in-law pick this one out. It’s officially the nicest thing I own – SO fancy for a suitcase! It has so many compartments, things organize so well, it has a built in zipper lock AND a usb plug to charge your phone!! They aren’t cheap, but there is a lifetime guarantee so I definitely would love to get the full sized suitcase in the future.
Stranger Things. I was never interested in the show just based on the premise. BUT my boyfriend wanted a new show to watch together so we started it during my big trip a few weeks ago. ANNDDDD it’s awesome of course! I am just starting the second season, though, so no spoilers!!
Alright that’s it for me this week. Hope your weekend was great!!
