It’s the weekend, and I have BOTH days off for the first time in a month! I shouldn’t get used to this considering the career I’m going into, but right now it feels like such a treat. I had a really great week on Newborn Nursery. It was very relaxed compared to my inpatient pediatrics, and getting to be with brand new babies all day is such a joy!
I have a high school friend’s big 30th birthday party Saturday night, and I suppose I’ll end up doing something for the Super Bowl party even though I really don’t care about the NFL. Justin Timberlake and the commercials will be fun! Other than that it’s studying, taxes (ugh!), and some blog projects to work on. Hope you all have a great weekend planned!
I haven’t done one in a while, but here’s this week’s weekly recap:
I have gotten to wear normal clothes (no white coat with the newborns) all week and it’s been fun! I really don’t get too creative with my outfits at 5:30am, so I end up mixing and matching. My outfits aren’t shared much because I repeat so often! Something about winter and early mornings just totally removes any style effort I may have. These have been my staples:
Long black cardigan (under $30!) | Black Ponte Pants which go perfectly with boots | Two tone riding boots (similar, similar) | Black midi t-shirt dress (very similar and LOVE it, similar, | Leopard Flats (I may cry when these wear out)

Vega One shakes for breakfast. I don’t like a big meal that early, but getting a shake in means I get some hydration after my coffee, a big dose of vitamins and minerals, and some protein to hold me over. It does the trick, but I am more than ready to eat when lunch finally comes around!
Cafeteria salads. I’m back at the hospital with the good salad bar, so I usually do a mixture of spinach, cucumbers, mushrooms, beans, feta, chicken and honey mustard dressing. So good!
I made my winter classics for meal prep. This crockpot “white chicken chili” that isn’t really chili at all once I doctor it up, and PaleOMG pizza spaghetti pie. I make these repeatedly when it’s cold out.
Banana almond flour muffins as snacks or to fill me up with my salad at lunch.
Mon: SUCH a fun power yoga class with Kim at YogaSource (ClassPass<– $30 off with that link!)
Tues: Stairmill & legs at the gym.
Wed: Restorative yoga at school with one of the pediatricians that teaches for us
Thurs: Shred415 – arms and abs day! (ClassPass)
Fri: My standard third wheel CycleBar date with Nicole and Valerio. Our fav Natalie teaches on Friday nights, and this week it was a glow-party “rave ride!” Also ClassPass!
Newborn Nursery was so fun!! Brand new babies are so adorable and I loved getting to hold them and tell them how perfect they are. I have a Day In The Life post coming up, and I also shared more in a live insta last night. That should be live for most of the day today if you want to check it out! I realized nursery is the wrong term and was confusing some people. There is a nursery, but the babies stay in the room with their moms. They only go to the nursery if they need a bath, a procedure, or to be watched while mom and dad get something else done. A better name (that the residents actually use) is “Well Baby.” We see all the new babies that aren’t in the NICU. That’s not to say they don’t require a little bit love, like glucose gels or blue lights for jaundice, but they aren’t requiring the more intense care that the NICU provides.
One other fun / stressful thing about this week was chatting with you guys on Instagram about my career!! I had no clue you guys would have so much to say about it and offer me so much advice. Thank you!!! I have been doing so much thinking about what I want to go into. I’ve narrowed it down to either a primary care specialty (Family or Pediatrics) or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. And then of course there are the Triple Board programs. I have some important conversations on the book this weekend and this coming week, but I think I might be starting to lean a certain way.
The “Fail Forward” Campaign on Instagram is incredible. I’m planning on sharing mine this weekend. I just so love that people are being honest and upfront about the fact that our lives are NOT all roses. Even though we may seem very accomplished and “perfect,” we all struggle and have made mistakes. It’s so encouraging to see that even those doing incredible things have had setbacks. It is SO important that we talk about these things. You’re never alone!!
(Cracked me up)
Have a great day, friends!!
