I am exhausted!! Anyone else? All of us?
Some of my meetings ran long this past weekend, which cut into my study time, which means I didn’t get as much done as I needed to and now I’m playing catch up all week.
I’m actually not going to class this week, which isn’t normally my style. Instead I’m choosing to go through the recordings of the lectures really slowly so I have time to look things up and make sure I get it fully before moving on. Neurology is intense!! Lots of looking at slices of brain and trying to figure out what neuronal pathways and running through it, and then if it is injured how that would affect the body…very cool, but not easy.
Working hard is part of the med school game., but lately we’ve been working OUT even harder!
I’ve somehow created a part-time job for myself where I plan private workout classes for SLU med. It all started last fall when I thought I’d be fun to have my classmates try out a class at Metro Power Yoga. Then I went to a Yoga Buzz event at Title Boxing and they said they’d love to have us try out a class with them too! And now studios are actually contacting me to set stuff up!! It’s crazy, but so so fun. They get new students in the door and we get to check out new places around the city for a really discounted rate. Win win.
Fit City Boot Camp
Last week we tried out a boot camp class with Kyle at Fit City Gym. This is a brand new gym near SLU and it is gorgeous! Amazing equipment, huge weight room, classes, and even “The Cave” which is a space for olympic lifting. If i didn’t already have a free gym at school I’d totally join. I think some of the guys might even consider joining since it’s pretty cheap and a fair amount nicer than our gym at school.
Kyle, who has his own fitness company called One Fitness and Performance, set up a 10 station boot camp focused on metabolic and functional training. We split into groups of 2 and spent 45 seconds at each station, doing things like sled pushes, box jumps, ball slams, kettle bell high pulls etc. After two times through we were sweating, and it was a total blast!
Yoga at Lululemon
Sunday night we had a private yoga class at Lululemon. I purchased it at an auction benefitting the American Heart Association and was so excited to get 40 of my classmates in the store for some yoga. We had the most amazing, light, stretchy class and it was just what I needed! Afterward we were given snacks and allowed to stay and shop, but most of us just drooled over the pretty clothes and discussed what we would buy once we have an income again. They have the MOST adorable dress right now…
This past Monday Pure Barre in the Central West End hosted 20 of us for a private class. Almost everyone was new to barre and we even had six guys, so I was SO excited for them to experience it for the first time.
We were shaking away and people were figuring out the “tuck” thing — I think everyone was surprised at how hard it was! The guys were dying:) The owners were there and were SO NICE and welcoming – seriously they were so happy and warm and nice! I’m so excited there is a studio close to school and hope I can try out their new platform classes soon.
And then last night I tried out a class at Shred415, which is a fitness studio local to St. Louis and Chicago. The Lululemon here is paying for 5 people to go to classes each Tuesday this month, which I thankfully found out about when I was there that Sunday for yoga, and my friend AJ and I were psyched to try it out!
If you’ve done Orange Theory it’s very similar, but without the rowers or heart rate monitors. It actually felt a little faster paced than Orange Theory, but same idea with the treadmill intervals and weights circuits. We were dying!! It was a killer class, super high energy, and totally somewhere I’d love to check out again.
Okay just reading that makes me tired. We are busy bees and I love that I get to workout with my friends so much. I definitely need a rest day and some more good stretchy yoga classes in my life soon.
- Have you ever done any of these workouts?? Pure Barre? Shred415?
- What’s your current fav workout?
